Biography of James Fissel

James Fissel is an artist who has moved to the Berkshires from Western Michigan. Over the years he has used his talents as a musician, artist, curator and church musical and arts director to weave together unique art programs for churches and communities large and small. James is a self taught artist who has been painting for nearly 12 years. In light of the fact that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 16 years ago, his ability to paint has become only more prolific and he has created a large body of work centered around his lifelong fascination with the orb - a symbol James uses as an iconic artistic tool expressing his relationship with the creative spirit, the mystery of life and all the dimensions in the world that exist but cannot be seen. As a painter, James works in several different media, mainly with acrylic, watercolor and paper collage. James has shown in galleries throughout Michigan and Berkshire County, Massachusetts and has been featured in various publications, including several book covers, magazines and CD covers.
